Audition Information for: Percussion
 

All percussion applicants will be required to audition on snare drum, tympani and marimba or xylophone. Minimum requirements of octaves and tempi for scales on marimba are listed below. Minimum requirements of tempi for excerpts will be those listed below.

Please read the taping procedures carefully and complete the audition form clearly and correctly. Tapes, materials and fees (payable to Colorado Music Educators Association) must be postmarked by October 17, 2008. No CD/tape will be accepted for adjudication thereafter.

Tapes/CDs should contain the following material: (Do not announce the student’s name on the recording!)

Snare Drum:
Orchestral style roll – pp crescendo for 15 seconds to ff diminuendo for 15 seconds to pp
Advanced Snare Drum Studies by Michael Peters

Marimba or Xylophone:
D Major Scale – 2 octaves in sixteenth notes, quarter = approx. 112
E-flat Major Scale - 2 octaves in sixteenth notes, quarter = approx. 112
C natural minor scale - 2 octaves in sixteenth notes, quarter = approx. 112
Bach Bouree in E Major

Timpani:
Roll on B-flat – pp crescendo for 15 seconds to ff diminuendo for 15 seconds to pp
