AUDITION ENTRY FORM 


 

2010-2011 Colorado All State High School Orchestra

Audition Information for: Brass

Orchestral brass required will be — French horns, trumpets, trombone, bass trombone and tuba. Trombonists who double on Bass Trombone, please note that fact on your audition form. Students may audition on Bass Trombone only. Students auditioning on two instruments should pay one fee of $20.00 if auditioning within one family of instruments, i.e. trombone and bass trombone. Students auditioning on two or more instruments, such as Trumpet/French horn must pay the $20.00 audition fee per instrument. Please prepare your audition using the guidelines listed below. Minimum requirements of octaves and tempi for scales are those listed. Brass students auditioning for All-State Orchestra will perform scales, the required excerpt(s) and a solo. Please note the required solos for all wind instruments!

Please read the taping procedures carefully and complete the audition form clearly and correctly. Tapes, materials and fees (payable to Colorado Music Educators Association) must be postmarked by October 15, 2010. No CD/tape will be accepted for adjudication thereafter.

Tapes/CDs should contain the following material: (Do not announce the student’s name on the recording!)

 

French Horn:
1.      Scales:    Concert C Major – 2 Octaves in Sixteenth Notes (Quarter = 112)
        Concert C Harmonic minor scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter = 120)
        Chromatic Scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter Note = 80)
4.      Concerto in E-flat, K. 447 (mvt. 1) by Mozart

 
Trumpet:
1.      Scales:         Concert A Major – 2 Octaves in Sixteenth Notes (Quarter = 112)
        Concert A Harmonic minor scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter = 120)
        Chromatic Scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter Note = 80)
4.      Concerto for Trumpet (mvt. 1) by Hummel

 
Trombone:
1.      Scales:         Concert A Major – 2 Octaves in Sixteenth Notes (Quarter = 112)
        Concert A Harmonic minor scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter = 120)
        Chromatic Scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter Note = 80)
3.      Concerto for Trombone (mvt. 1) by David

 
Bass Trombone:
1.      Scales:         Concert A Major – 2 Octaves in Sixteenth Notes (Quarter = 112)
        Concert A Harmonic minor scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter = 120)
        Chromatic Scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter Note = 80)
3.      Concerto in One Movement (beginning to the Meno Mosso at mm. 40) - Lebedev

 
Tuba:
1.      Scales:         Concert A Major – 2 Octaves in Sixteenth Notes (Quarter = 112)
        Concert A Harmonic minor scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter = 120)
       Chromatic Scale – 2 Octaves in Eighth Notes (Quarter Note = 80)
3.      Air and Bouree (Bouree movement only) by Bach/Bell

 

 

Attention: All state auditions will now be adjudicated a little differently. Applicants will given full points for the difficulty rating only if the overall performance of the solo was well done and if the chosen excerpts of the solo were difficult enough to deserve the points.

 

PLEASE NOTICE THE REQUIRED SOLOS FOR WIND INSTRUMENTS!
